Lester Murray Varner

Lester Murray Varner, age 86, of 256 W. Liberty St., Asheboro died Monday, October 12, 2009 at Clapp's Convalescent Nursing Home, Asheboro.Mr. Varner was born March 4, 1923 the son of Claude Homer and Viola Fern Andrews Varner.Mr. Varner was a native of Asheboro and a 1943 graduate of Asheboro High School where he was a star athlete. He played baseball with the Acme Eagles in the 1940's before serving in the US Air Force during WWII. He retired from Acme-McCrary and was a long-time member of Fayetteville Street Baptist Church. He is preceded in death by his parents and one brother: Colon Varner. He is survived by his wife: Haddie Broadstreet Varner; daughter and her husband, Alana and Rob Robinson of Asheboro, NC; daughter and her husband, Barbara and Jerry Reid of Kernersville, NC; daughter and her husband, Jane and Bill DeMay of Aberdeen, NC; grandson, Jeremy Reid; grandson and his wife, Kellen and Trista Reid; granddaughters, Candace and Claudia Wilson; and great-grandson, Caleb Pruitt.The Graveside Service will be Wednesday, October 14, 2009 at 11:00 AM at Randolph Memorial Park, 4538 US Hwy 220 Bus.
