Leonard Simmons, age 66, of 4769 Burney Mill Rd., Troy died Wednesday, August 1, 2012 at his home.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 4, 2012 at 3:00 p.m. at Eleazer Church, 7503 Eleazer Church Rd., Troy with Pastor Jimmy Wansley and Pastor Chris Sheffield officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Mr. Simmons was born in Randolph County on February 6, 1946 to Robert Dyle and Madalene Hardister Simmons. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War and was retired from Mid-State Paper Box in Randleman. Leonard was very well known in Bluegrass music, he gave many Bluegrass bands their start in the business, and was the owner and operator of "True Bluegrass." In addition to his father, Leonard was preceded in death by his brother David Wesley Simmons.
He is survived by his wife, Eva Simmons; mother, Madalene H. Simmons of Troy, NC; sisters, Hilda Saunders of Troy, NC, Donna Linder of Troy, NC; and brother, Tommy Simmons of Denton, NC.
The family will receive friends on Friday, August 3, 2012 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro, NC.
