Mrs. Lena Scott Killebrew Thomas, born March 10, 1914 in Edgecombe County, died on April 15, 2009 in Winston-Salem, N.C.
She was predeceased by her mother and father, Linda Cutchin Killebrew and W. H. Killebrew, her brother Charles M. Killebrew and her beloved husband Wilbur Winston Thomas.
She was married to Wilbur Thomas for 31 years, during which time they lived in Durham and Asheboro until his death in 1968. She spent the last 18 years at Arbor Acres in Winston Salem. The family wishes to thank the nurses and staff at Arbor Acres for the excellent care they provided for her. Scottie was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. In addition, she was a registered nurse who was educated and trained at Parkview Hospital in Rocky Mount, N.C.
Mrs. Thomas is survived by three children: Mrs. Barbara Thomas Beason and husband, Dr. Edward Beason of Winston-Salem, Mrs. Linda Thomas Austin and husband Pete Austin III of Chattanooga, Tennessee, and Dr. Philip Winston Thomas and wife, Elizabeth Walker Thomas of Raleigh. In addition she is survived by 10 grandchildren: Stewart Beason (Tracey) of Winston-Salem, Allison Beason LaPrise (Jeff) of Windsor, CT; Ted Beason (Maggie)of Germantown, TN; David Beason (April) of Winston-Salem; Pete Austin IV (Beth) of Chattanooga, TN; Scottie Austin Cain (Dick) of Tuscaloosa, AL; Tommy Austin (Jeanne) of Chattanooga, TN; Katie Thomas Flynn (Jay) of Raleigh; Philip Thomas, Jr. (Erika) of Rocky Mount and Kevin Thomas (Missy) of Sidney, NE, and 24 great grandchildren.
Pugh Funeral Home of Asheboro is in charge of arrangements. There will be a graveside service on Saturday, April 18, 2009 at 11 am at Oaklawn Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Randolph, (P.O. Box 9, Asheboro, N.C. 27204-0009) or to a charity of one's choice.
