Lawrence G. Sours, age 95 of Farmville passed away Tuesday, January 5, 2010. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Lewallen Sours. A native of Chatham, Virginia, and the youngest of William and Elizabeth Sours' 12 children, he is survived by his daughter, Llewellyn Sours Watson, and her husband, Hunter, of Farmville; his grandsons, Bradley Lawrence Watson and his wife, Virginia, and Brett Von Cannon Watson and his wife, Lorrie; and four grandchildren Thomas, Ethan, Claire, and Sophie, all of Farmville.
Mr. Sours was a lifelong funeral director, spending the last thirty years of his career at the Pugh Funeral Home in Asheboro, NC. Lawrence was a former member of the Central United Methodist Church of Asheboro, NC. An accomplished soloist, he sang for over a thousand weddings and funerals during his lifetime, as well as for both of his grandsons' weddings when he was over 80 years old. Known as "PaPa" to many Farmville residents, he will long be remembered for his outgoing personality, winning smile, and generosity to all he met. A Rotarian for sixty years, he was past president of the Altavista Virginia Rotary Club, a former member of the Asheboro Rotary Club, a member of the Farmville Rotary Club, and a Paul Harris Fellow.
The family will receive friends at the Puckett Funeral Home in Farmville on Thursday evening between 5:30 and 7:00 pm. Funeral services will be held at the Farmville United Methodist Church in Farmville at 11 am Friday morning. Interment services will be held at 4 pm Friday at the Pugh Funeral Home Chapel in Asheboro, NC.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Farmville United Methodist Church or Fuqua School.
