Larry Thomas Thornburg, age 73, of Asheboro, passed away on Sunday, November 29, 2015 at the Randolph Hospice House.
Mr. Thornburg was born in Randolph County on January 17, 1942 to Arthur and Margie Clodfelter Thornburg. He was a member of the National Guard and a member of AMVETS Post 905. Larry was formerly employed with Lowe’s Hardware and Amick’s Superstore. He was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church where he was a member of the Fraternal Order of the Knights of Columbus. In addition to his parents, Larry was preceded in death by his brothers Donald and David Thornburg. Larry loved to fish, but he especially loved spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife, Theresa Bennett Thornburg; sons, David Wilburn and wife Doreen and their son, Jake Wilburn all of Asheboro; Mark Wilburn and wife Wanda and their sons, Mark Wilburn II and wife Jessica and Brandon Wilburn; Robert Wilburn and wife Denise and their sons, Colton Wilburn and wife Amanda and Corbin Wilburn; sister, Sandra M. Dunn and husband Ivey of Asheboro; brother, Dale Thornburg of Washington, DC; and additional family, Cecil and Ivey Piansay and their children, Franchesca and Patrick all of Asheboro.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, December 2, 2015 from 2:00-3:00 pm at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 512 West Wainman Ave., Asheboro. A memorial service will follow on Wednesday at 3:00 pm at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with Father Philip Kollithanath and Pastor Mark Wilburn officiating.
