Larry K. Hardin

Larry K. Hardin, 76, passed away Wednesday, December 12, 2012 at home after a courageous battle with lung cancer surrounded by his family. The family will receive friends Saturday, December 15, 2012 from 1 - 2:00pm in the Narthex of Central United Methodist Church. Funeral services will follow in the Sanctuary at 2:00pm with Dr. Terry Matthews officiating. Burial will follow at Randolph Memorial Park with full military honors presented by Randolph County Honor Guard. Larry was born in Randolph County on January 6, 1936, the son of Walter K. Hardin and Ethel Vickery Hardin, who both preceded him in death. Larry proudly served his country 26 years in the United States Navy. He later worked as an engineer for General Electric Inc. and Argo International, Inc. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Conrad Hardin, and a sister, Katherine Poole. Larry is survived by his wife of 54 years, Nancy Thornburg Hardin; sons, K. Wesley Hardin of Cincinnati, Ohio and S. Gregory Hardin and his wife, Ronica, of Elberta, Alabama; daughter, Lisa C. Hardin of Raleigh, North Carolina; granddaughter, Kendall C. Hardin of Pensacola, Florida; step-grandsons, Malcolm, Bubba, and Hunter Burt of Elberta, Alabama; sisters, Betty Jo Cagle and husband Hal, Janet Cooper and husband Gary, Ann Brown, all of Asheboro and Gwen Foster and husband Bill of Ruffin; a brother, Randy Hardin of Asheboro; and several nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at Randolph Cancer Center; especially Dr. Christine McCarty, Dr. Sandra Mitchell, Kelli Mosher and nurses: Duncan, Rae and Kevin. Also, thanks to the caring staff at Hospice of Randolph County.
