Larry Thomas Embler

Larry Thomas “Tater” Embler, age 74, of Asheboro passed away on Tuesday, April 17, 2018 at his home.

Mr. Embler was born in Guilford County, NC to Harlie Junior and Colleen Hunt Embler.  He was a graduate of Fairgrove High School in Thomasville and served his country in the U.S. Navy.  He attended Mt. Tabor Community Church.  Larry retired as a Lieutenant with the Asheboro Police Department after 30 years of service and was the current owner of Tater's Towing.  Larry was a member of AMVETS Post 905 and the American Legion Post 45. Larry was a friend to everyone he met and he was known to always be a helping hand to anyone that was in need in our community. In addition to his parents, Larry was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Lauren Marie Owens.

He is survived by his daughters, Deborah Embler of Bath, ME, Diana Embler of  Westport Island, ME, and  Lori Owens and husband Laurin of Asheboro; son, Thomas Embler of Asheboro; grandchildren, Ashlee Embler, Jacob Vose, Thomas "TJ" Owens, and Steven Owens; great grandchild, Connor Larrabee; former wife, Elizbeth Bell of Asheboro; sisters, Shirley McLean of Thomasville and Kathy Lambeth of Thomasville; and brother, Bobby Embler of Thomasville.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, April 19, 2018 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue in Asheboro and other times at the home of his son, 1444 Danny Bell Road in Asheboro.  Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 20, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Balfour Baptist Church, 1644 North Fayetteville Street in Asheboro with Rev. Gary Mason and Pastor Stephen Stowe officiating.  Burial will be in the Mt. Tabor Community Church Cemetery with military honors by the Randolph County Honor Guard.
