Kenny Wayne Beddingfield, 68, of Asheboro, NC died at home peacefully on Wednesday, August 13, 2014.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 16, 2014 at 2:00 pm at First United Methodist Church, 224 N. Fayetteville St., Asheboro with Rev. Dan Ramsey, Rev. George Roberson and Pastor Adam Beddingfield officiating. Burial will be in the McDonald's Chapel Cemetery, 1374 Fox Fire Rd., Aberdeen, NC 28315 with military honors by the Randolph County Honor Guard. The family will receive friends on Friday, August 15, 2014 from 7-9 pm at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Ave., Asheboro.
He was born August 10, 1946 at Fort Bragg, NC to the late James and Nadine Dove Beddingfield.
Kenny graduated from Pinehurst High School in 1964 and recently attended his 50 year class reunion. He served as a medic in the US Army during the Vietnam War. He graduated from Durham Technical Community College with a degree in Opticianry. He was an optician for 45 years, retiring from Academy Eye Center in 2008 due to declining health. He loved helping people to see. Kenny was a member of First United Methodist Church of Asheboro where he served on the church council, on missions and was an usher. He loved his church and was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and brother. He also was an avid golfer and was 2006 Club champion at Tot Hill Farm for his age division. Despite his health, he was able to attend the US Open at Pinehurst this year.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepfather, John L. McKenzie, Sr.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Linda McDonald Beddingfield, and his 3 sons, Jason Beddingfield and wife Lynn of Holly Springs, Pastor Adam Beddingfield and wife Sharon of Asheboro, and Brandon Beddingfield of Raleigh, 2 grandchildren, Kaleigh and Ryder; 3 brothers, James Beddingfield and wife Nancy of Southern Pines, Bobby Beddingfield and wife Audrey of Carthage, John McKenzie of Florida; and 1 sister, Joan Thompson and husband Burnice of Thomasville and numerous nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his McDonald in-laws, Gary and Betty McDonald, Ken and Sue McDonald, Beth McDonald, and Tim McDonald.
