Kenneth Harvel, age 63, of Asheboro died Thursday, July 16, 2015 at his home.
Mr. Harvel was born June 19, 1952 in Asheboro to John and Nina Harvell. He was an Army veteran of the Vietnam Era and was retired from Kennametal after 20 years of service. Mr. Harvel was a gun fanatic who loved dogs, hummingbirds, woodworking and was a big motorcycle fan. He was a big practical jokester who kept everyone laughing. In addition to his parents, Mr. Harvel was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Kaylee Harvel.
He is survived by his wife, Sylvia McElroy Harvel; son, Kenneth Harvel and wife Melissa of Asheboro; daughters, Melissa Smith and Earl Meadows of Asheboro, Claire Harvel Small of Asheboro; grandchildren, Billy Smith, III, Dylan Harvel, Nina Small, Ryan Meadows, sisters: Terrie Allred of Asheboro Kay LaLiberte of Asheboro, Sandy Harvel of Asheboro; brother, Johnny Harvel of Mitchels, VA.
The family will receive friends Saturday, July 18, 2015 from 6 - 8 PM at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro. A graveside service will be held Sunday, at 2:00 pm at Pisgah United Methodist Church Cemetery, 5594 Pisgah Covered Bridge Road, Asheboro with Pastor Troy Carter officiating.
