Kathleen "Kathi" Diane Keys

Kathleen "Kathi" Diane DeLay Keys, age 69, of Asheboro passed away on Tuesday, January 24, 2017 at Universal Health Care of Ramseur. Ms. Keys was born in Washington, DC to John and Irene McNamara DeLay. She was raised in Northern Virginia and was a graduate of Iowa State University with a degree in Journalism. Kathi was a huge Washington Redskins fan. Kathi was a long time resident of Randolph County. Kathi was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. She was formerly employed with the Journal Messenger in Manassas, VA from 1969-1986, the Courier-Tribune in Asheboro, NC from 1986-1990, the Randolph Guide in Asheboro, NC from 1992-1998, and again at the Courier-Tribune in 1999, retiring in 2016. She was formerly employed as a seasonal employee with the NC Zoo. She is survived by her sons, Sam Keys (Jennifer) of Raleigh, NC, Chris Keys of Fort Myers, FL; grandchildren, Robey Keys, Emerson Keys, and Evelyn Keys of Raleigh, NC; and siblings, Peggy DeLay of Manassas, VA, Rita Snider (Tim) of Derby, KS, John DeLay (Janie) of Castle Rock, CO, Jim DeLay (Patti) of Castle Rock, CO, Mary Anne Clagett (Rob) of Colorado Springs, CO, Terry DeLay of Escalante,UT, Frank DeLay (Kristie) of Granby, CO, and Maureen Joseph (Chris) of Falls Church, VA; and many nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends on Saturday, January 28, 2017 from 3:00-4:00 pm at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro, NC. A memorial service will follow at 4:00 pm at the Pugh Funeral Home Chapel with Chaplain Tim Pheagin officiating. Inurnment will be held at a later date in Virginia.
