Katherine Hardison Lamb, age 90, of 450 Mountain Top Rd., Asheboro, NC, and a former resident of Southern Pines, NC for 50 years, died Saturday, May 22, 2010 at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital in Greensboro, NC.
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, May 26, 2010 at 2:00 PM at the Historic Oakwood Cemetery, 701 Oakwood Avenue, Raleigh with Rev. Martin Caldwell, a dear family friend and former rector of Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Southern Pines, officiating.
Katherine was born in Raleigh, NC on April 29, 1920 the daughter of Joseph Hammond Hardison and Katherine Smith Hardison. She was the granddaughter of Charles Lee Smith and Sallie Lindsay Jones Smith of Raleigh, NC. She was a graduate of St. Mary's Junior College and during World War II she worked as a civilian with the U.S. Army Signal Corps in Washington, DC. Katherine married Robert Vaughn Lamb, Jr. in 1944 and they were married for 60 years until his death in May 2005. Katherine was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and sister. She was preceded in death by her sister, Sarah Locke Hoch.
She is survived by her son, Dr. Robert Vaughn Lamb III and his wife Bonnie Lamb of Charleston, WV; daughter, Kathy Homiller and her husband Phil Homiller of Asheboro, NC; granddaughters, Lindsay Higgins of Charlotte, NC, Beth Higgins of New York, NY, Jennifer Lamb Miller and her husband John Miller of Charleston, WV and LiLi Homiller of Asheboro, NC; great grandson, Dustin Miller of Charleston, WV; brother, Dr. Joseph H. Hardison, Jr. and his wife Dr. Cynthia S. Hardison of Raleigh, NC; and several nieces and nephews.
