Katherine Bulla

Katherine Baker Bulla died Wednesday, March 25, 2015 in Asheboro. She was born April 14, 1926 to James Millard Baker and Kate Spoon Baker. She grew up in Raeford, NC and moved to Asheboro after high school to live with aunts and work for Lucas National and Stedman Manufacturing. While attending First Baptist church she met and married Thurman C. Bulla of Asheboro. They lived in Wichita Falls during Thurman's Air Force duty and seven years in Chapel Hill, NC for his college and dental school and where she worked for UNC Extension Division before settling in Asheboro as a full time homemaker. Katherine was active in the neighborhood Garden Club and in First Baptist Church and immersed in the lives of multiple relatives. She was outgoing and enjoyed talking with nearly everyone she met. She worked in her husband Dr. Bulla's practice for 5 years. After retirement Thurman and Katherine enjoyed belonging to Charlotte United Methodist Church. Mrs. Bulla is preceded in death by her parents, brother, James M. Baker, Jr., and by her husband. She is survived by daughter, Karen B. James and husband Larry M. James of McLeansville, NC; son, David A. Bulla and wife Carole H. Bulla of Asheboro, NC. She treasured three granddaughters, Whitney Ferguson (Chris), Sara Mitchell (Travis), and Madison Bulla, and three great grandchildren, Brodie Ferguson, Bailee Mitchell, and Blakely Mitchell. She is also survived by beloved sister-in-law, Ruby Hopkins Small Baker of Asheboro. The family will receive friends Saturday, March 28, 2015 from 10:00-11:00 am at Charlotte United Methodist Church, 1182 Charlotte Church Rd., Asheboro. Funeral services will follow at 11:30 am with Rev. Tom Robertson officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Box 9, Asheboro, NC 27204-0009 or Cross Roads Retirement Community, 1302 Old Cox Rd., Asheboro, NC 27205 The family extends sincere gratitude to friends and staff at Cross Roads Retirement Community Assisted Living where Katherine choose to live since fall 2012 and to Dr. Thomas Green and staff at Randolph Hospital and at Hospice House during her recent illness.
