June Auman, 89, finally met Jesus, his Lord and Savior, face to face Thursday, December 5, 2013. Having been diagnosed with liver cancer over 2 years ago, he lived his life fully during these last years.
June had many things that he loved, first and foremost his late wife, Joyce, and his family. First Baptist Church was his church home. He loved children and taught the 5 year olds in Sunday School for over 30 years and substituted in the preschool department until he was in his late 70's. In his retirement years, he also tutored at Lindley Park school and volunteered at CUOC. He was active in the Civitans in the 1980's and 90's and was president for 2 years.
June worked at Auto Supply Store for over 40 years.
One of the activities that he enjoyed was fishing. He enjoyed swimming at the YMCA and was an avid NASCAR fan and rarely missed a race on TV. He enjoyed working in the yard and tending a garden.
June served in the US Navy aboard the USS Furse in the South Pacific from 1945 - 1947.
A special thanks to June's doctors over the years that took such good care of him: Dr. Patricia Shevlin of Asheboro Family Physicians, Dr. Jane Quinn and Dr. Steve Choi of the VA Hospital, and Dr. Jay Pyrtle of LeBauer Health Care. Also a special thanks to Hospice of Randolph and Davidson Counties for the tender care they gave him in his final days.
June Auman had a joyful smile and it was a result of his faith, family and friends. He loved us well to the end.
He is survived by daughter, Myra Gebbie and husband Jack of Greensboro; son, Ken Auman and wife Debbie of Lexington; grandchildren, Ashley and Callie Auman of Lexington, Ben, Emily and Sarah Gebbie all of Greensboro; brother, Wiley Auman of Jamestown.
