Josephine Parsons "Jo" Haywood, age 86, of Mt. Gilead died Sunday, May 7, 2017 surrounded by her family at her home. Mrs. Haywood was born April 30, 1931 the daughter of Allan Thomas and Carrie Lamonds Parsons.
Mrs. Haywood was a native of Montgomery County, she was a member of Holly Mount Baptist Church where she was very active. Jo taught Sunday school at Troy Pentecostal Holiness Church for over 20 years and she was a former nurse's aide taking care of the children in the nursery at Montgomery Memorial Hospital. In addition to her parents Jo is preceded in death by her husband of 65 years G.T. Haywood, Jr., brother, June Parsons.
She is survived by her daughter: Frances E. Freeman and husband Mickey of Mt. Gilead; sons: G.T. Haywood, III and wife Celia Comer, Ronald W. Haywood, Stephen A. Haywood, Bobby J. Haywood, Garry L. Haywood and wife Debbie Loflin, James D. Haywood and wife Michele Brodeur and Charles T. Haywood and wife Lisa Stoker all of Mt. Gilead; 16 grandchildren; 5 step grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; sister: Louise Parsons of Asheboro.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, May 9, 2017 from 6 – 8 PM at Pugh-Troy Funeral Home, 211 North Main Street in Troy. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, May 10, 2017 at Holly Mount Baptist Church, Holly Mount Church Road in Mt. Gilead with Rev. Ben Hall officiating. Burial will follow in the G.T. Haywood Family Cemetery, Chip Road in Mt. Gilead.
