Joseph Franklin Rich

Joseph Franklin Rich, age 97, of West Central Ave., Asheboro died Saturday, November 7, 2009 at his home.Mr. Rich was a native of Randolph County and served in the US Navy during WWII. He retired from S.E. Trogdon & Sons and was a member of Giles Chapel United Methodist Church. He worked as a carpenter for over 75 years and enjoyed sharing his knowledge and skills with friends and neighbors. Joe loved the outdoors especially gardening, yard work and cutting wood. He was an avid reader and enjoyed discussing his family history. He spent many years helping to restore the old Thomas Bulla cabin. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Wesley and Ella Bulla Rich, siblings: Clay Rich, Edith Lemmons, Johnny Rich, Wiley Rich, Ollie Rich and Ed Rich.He is survived by his wife: Jewell Hicks Rich, one son: Gilmer L. Rich and his wife: Mae of Lexington, NC; three daughters: Kay Eisinger and her husband; Don of Asheboro, NC, Anita Phillips and her husband, Bobby of Surf City, NC, MaryElla R. Shirley of Cary, NC; 10 grandchildren: Scott Rich, Joel Rich, Tony Lyman, Denise Piner, Diane Murphy, Patricia Douglass, Karen MacPherson, John Phillips, Cameron Shirley, Dylan Shirley and 19 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren and two brothers: Reid Rich and his wife, Garlene of Asheboro, NC and Harris Rich of Roanoke, VA.The family will receive friends Monday, November 9, 2009 from 6:00 - 8:00 PM at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro, NC. The funeral service will be held Tuesday, November 10, 2009 at 2:00 PM at Giles Chapel United Methodist Church with Rev. Ronald D. Van Lente and Rev. Don Eisinger officiating.
