Joseph David "Bud" Poole, age 80, of Troy died Tuesday, December 26, 2017 at Bethany Woods Nursing & Rehab Center, Albemarle.

Mr. Poole was born June 26, 1937 In Montgomery County, the son of the late William Joshua Poole and Ellen (McIntyre) Poole.

Mr. Poole was an Army Veteran and a retired Custody and Extradition Officer with the Department of Corrections for many years. He was well known as a people person, a jokester, and enjoyed talking to everyone he met. He was a kind, gentle man, who was loved by all who knew him. His hobbies included woodworking, golf, and hunting.

He is survived by one daughter: Pam Hurley and husband Darrell of Troy, NC; two sons: Greg Poole and fiancé Beverly of Locust, NC and William Scott Poole and wife Jenny of Troy, NC; grandchildren, Jennifer Strait and husband Jim, Jonathan Hurley and wife, Julie, Josh Poole, Megan Poole, Kristen Poole, and Sarah Poole; great grandchildren, Faith Hurley and Georgia Rose Hurley.

Joe was preceded in death by his loving wife, Bonnie Thrush Poole, brothers Paul, Silas, Robert and Max Poole, and sisters Ruth P. Pierce and Nell Sasser.

Visitation for Mr. Poole will be held Thursday, December 28, 2017 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Pugh Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St., Troy, NC. A Funeral service will be held Friday, December 29, 2017 at 2:00 PM at First Wesleyan Church, 1368 NC Hwy 134 N, Troy with Dr. Ed Lindsey officiating. Burial with Military Honors will follow in First Wesleyan Church Cemetery.
