Joseph Eugene Maness, Sr.

Joseph Eugene Maness, age 87, of 2993 Okeewemee Road, Star, died Sunday, January 27, 2013 at First Health Hospice And Palliative Care, Pinehurst. Mr. Maness was born September 23, 1925 at Montgomery County, NC, the son of Barna Edward and Sina Burroughs Maness. He was a US Army veteran of World War II and a self-employed farmer. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by three brothers: Doug Maness, Robert Maness and Bill Maness; one sister: Doris Maness and son-in-law: Jim Vuncannon. He is survived by his wife of sixty-four years: Myrtle Hamilton Maness of the home; one daughter: Dianne M Vuncannon of Star; two sons: J. Eugene Maness, Jr. and wife, Cathy of Star, Eddie Maness and wife, Donna of Star; one sister: Maxine M Crews of Greensboro; two brothers: Hugh Maness of Greensboro, B. J. Maness of Star; grandchildren: Amy Vuncannon of Star, Jimmy Vuncannon and wife, Amy of Star, Danny Vuncannon and wife, Andrea of Star, Sarah Smith and husband, Jeremy of Biscoe, Joseph Maness of Star; Andrea Ingram and husband, Mike of Biscoe; great-grandchildren: Emily Vuncannon, Timothy Vuncannon, Rachel Vuncannon, Jacob Vuncannon, all of Star, Tyler Smith, Layla Smith, Grant Ingram, Gavin Ingram, all of Biscoe. The family will receive friends Tuesday, January 29, 2013 from 6 - 8 pm at First Wesleyan Church of Troy, 1368 NC Hwy 134N, Troy; other times at the home. The funeral will be Wednesday at 2:00 pm at First Wesleyan Church with Pastor Brian C. Wardlaw officiating. Burial will follow in Suggs Creek Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery, Star.
