Jonathan Monroe "J.R." Rollins, Jr., age 77, of Sophia passed away and went home to be the Lord on Friday, February 16, 2018 at Woodland Hill Care & Rehabilitation, Asheboro.
J.R. was born March 31, 1940 the son of John and Lena Yow Rollins. He was a native of Randolph County and attended Shady Grove Christian Church in Star. J.R. was employed with Central Gas, Overnight Trucking, Caraway Furniture and retired from Hughes Furniture. He enjoyed NASCAR, football, wrestling, hunting, fishing and hanging out at Paw Paw's place. J.R. was very involved at Caraway Speedway in the pit crew transporting the race cars, helping the Make-A Wish kids and loved his k-9 companion, Bentley. J.R. is preceded in death by his parents, John and Lena Rollins, grandson, Jesse Rollins, brother, Clifford Yow, sister, Shelby Lewter and brother-in-law, Willie Cagle.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years: Dottie Messick Rollins of the home; children: Tammy Rollins Morgan of Asheboro, Jonathan Monroe Rollins, III, of Asheboro, Lesa Rollins Dawkins of Randleman, Kevin Rollins and wife Jeanette of Asheboro, Tonja Swaim Robbins and husband Ken of Sophia and Anita Swaim Cole and husband Jim of Dunn; grandchildren: Ryan Fox, Justin Robbins, Johnny Dawkins, Tyler Dawkins, Shelby Atkins, Kimberly Atkins, Cheyenne Phillips, Levi Phillips, Morgan Cole, Katie Cole, Jami Cole, Abigail Bullins, and Jacob Rollins; great grandchildren: Aiden Dawkins, Adelynn Dawkins ,and Emily Atkins; sisters, Emily Williams and husband Ted of Laurinburg and Linda Faye Cagle of Asheboro; brother-in-law Jerry Lewter of Apex.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, February 21, 2018 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Pugh Funeral Home, 600 South Main Street, Randleman, NC and other times at the home. The funeral service will be held Thursday, February 22, 2018 at 11:00 am at Midway Wesleyan Church, 331 Worthville Rd., Randleman with Rev. Jeff Freeman, Pastor Kevin Rollins and Rev. Arnold Luther officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. A reception will follow in the fellowship hall.
