Johnny Joe Harvell, age 64, of Asheboro went to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, April 7, 2014 in Asheboro.
Mr. Harvell was a native of Randolph County and a 1967 graduate of Asheboro High School. Johnny served his country with the National Guard during the Vietnam War. He was the owner/operator of Transportation Network in Asheboro. He was formerly the District Lay Leader for the United Methodist Church and District Lay Leader for the Western Methodist Conference. Johnny was the former board president of Randolph Community College and was an active board member of Mt. Shepherd Retreat Center. Johnny was Past President of the board of Hospice of Randolph and was instrumental in the fundraising drive and vision for the Randolph Hospice House.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy Hunt Harvell; son, Brian Harvell and his fiancé Stephanie Dawn Wilson of Asheboro; grandchildren, Kelsey Jaide Harvell and Austin Thomas Garner both of Asheboro, NC; special niece, Lonnette Landers of Asheboro; sisters, Linda Reeder and her husband Clyde of Seagrove and Trilla Hunt of Asheboro.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, April 12, 2014 from 11:00 AM-2:00 PM at the Central United Methodist Church Family Life Center, 300 South Main Street, Asheboro, NC. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 3:00 PM at Central United Methodist Church with Rev. Neil Crowell and Rev. Kent Shrader officiating. Burial will be in the New Union United Methodist Church Cemetery.
