Johnny Matthew Burris, Jr.

Johnny Matthew Burris, Jr, age 88, of 516 Wallace Ave Apt 2A, Troy died Saturday, April 25, 2015 at his home. Mr. Burris was born November 11, 1926 at Troy, NC the son of John Matthew and Ronnia Bean Burris, Sr. He was a Christian and a faithful member of Tabernacle Baptist Church for 50 plus years, not always able to attend but always keeping the church in his heart. Mr. Burris was a former 20 plus year employee of Capel's Inc. He loved gardening and his grandkids. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Helen Bristow Burris and son, Don Burris. He is survived by three daughters: Linda B Hunt, Joyce B (Don) Sheppard and Shirley B (Jim) Luther, all of Troy; four grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren; two sisters: Lois Blake and Myrtle Johnson, both of Troy and daughter-in-law: Debbie Burris of Troy. The family will receive friends Monday, April 27, 2015 from 6-8 pm at Pugh-Troy Funeral Home, 211 North Main Street, Troy; other times at the home of Shirley and Jim Luther, of Dairy Rd., Troy. The funeral will be Tuesday at 2:00 pm at Tabernacle Baptist Church, 412 Bell Street, Troy with Pastor Mark Harper and Rev. Jerry Mabry officiating. Burial will be in Southside Cemetery, Troy.
