Johnnie Rufus Pickett

Johnnie R. Pickett, age 91, died peacefully on Saturday, October 5, 2013 at Carillon Assisted Living of Asheboro. He was born in Farmer, NC to Sam and Della Pickett. Johnnie was preceded in death by his loving and dedicated wife, Rebecca, who died in June of this year. He was last of nine children. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, October 9, 2013 from 1:00-2:00 pm at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro, NC., the funeral service will follow at 2:00 PM in the Pugh Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ken Thames and Pat Thames officiating. Burial will be held in Oaklawn Cemetery, with military honors by the Randolph Honor Guard. Johnnie was a member of Asheboro Friends Meeting and served faithfully for many years. He adored his wife, loved and supported his daughters, and thoroughly enjoyed his sons-in-law, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. A World War II veteran and retired from management at Bossong Hosiery Mill, Johnnie was an excellent cook, and-from a young man until recently, enjoyed his cars. Johnnie is survived by his daughter Nellie and husband Randy Breedlove of Waxhaw, NC, grandsons and great grandchildren, Todd and Susan Breedlove, Sidney, Madison and Davis of Unionville, NC; Kevin and Cheryl Breedlove, Abigail, John, Sara, Joshua, Caleb, Gideon, Lydia, Peter and Eli of Austin, Arkansas; daughter Martha and husband Dr. Edgell Pyles of Snowmass, CO; grandson and great granddaughters, Tom and wife Linda Pyles, Carly, Katie, and Cassie of Denver, CO; grandson, Todd and wife Cindy Pyles of Richmond, VA; granddaughter Kathy and husband Mark Herrell, great grandchildren Emily, Trey, Lillian Rebecca, and Ryan of Richmond, VA. His daughters send a very grateful thanks to a special friend and neighbor Mary Efird, as well as Carol Efird, for their years of friendship with and care for Johnnie and Rebecca.
