Johnnie Reid Hartman of Asheboro died Monday, September 4, 2017 at Randolph Hospice House, Asheboro surrounded by his family.
Mr. Hartman was born March 26 the son of William Walden and Mozelle Bost Hartman who preceded him in death, along with his sister: Thursall Lineberry.
Johnnie was a native of Lincoln County, NC and was an Air Force Veteran of the Korean Conflict. He served as an Asheboro City Police officer for 23 years and retired as Lieutenant in 1979. He enjoyed UNC Basketball, GO HEELS, and American Legion Post 45 Baseball. He was a longtime member of Oakhurst Baptist Church and the American Legion Post 45. He liked to fish, pick with his grandchildren, enjoyed vacations at Morehead City, and all family get-togethers, where he was the master griller. He found great joy raising a prolific vegetable garden and making his homemade ice cream which was enjoyed by many. He had a soft spot for his favorite cat, Alice.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years: Betty Vuncannon Hartman; daughter: Christa Hartman of Asheboro, NC; daughter and her husband: Holly Jon and Christopher Doerr of Asheboro, NC; daughter and her husband: Pam and Dan O'Sullivan of McLeansville, NC; grandchildren: KaiLee and Kinley Doerr, Jessica Sturm; Johnathan Myrick; two brothers: Ben Hartman of Durham, NC and Jen Hartman of FL.
The family will receive friends Friday, September 8, 2017 from 6-8 PM at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Ave. Asheboro, NC and other times at the home of his daughter, Holly Jon, 350 Deer Berry Court, Asheboro . The funeral will be Saturday, September 9, 2017 at 2:00 pm at Oakhurst Baptist Church, 2225 South Fayetteville Street, Asheboro with Dr. Keith Hudson, Dr. Richard Crider and Dr. Rob Roberts officiating. Burial will follow in New Hope Memorial Gardens, Asheboro with military honors provided by the Randolph County Honor Guard.
The family would like to express their gratitude to Dr. Paul Colavita of the Sanger Clinic Charlotte, NC, Dr. Charles Betts, the nurses and staff of Randolph Health, Clapp's Convalescent Nursing Home and Woodland Hill and Hospice of Randolph for their wonderful care given to Johnnie over the past year.
