John Wesley Mitchell, Sr., age 82, of Asheboro, died Monday, October 4, 2021 at Genesis Healthcare, Siler City.
Mr. Mitchell was born November 29, 1938 in Denton to John and Nona Mitchell.
Mr. Mitchell was a graduate of Denton High School and a life-long Methodist. He was a member of Central United Methodist Church for 56 years where he was a member of the Wesley Sunday School class. Mr. Mitchell loved reading his Bible, was great at playing checkers and word search. He and his wife Joyce celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in September. In addition to his parents, Mr. Mitchell was preceded in death by son William Kim Mitchell, brother, Joe Mitchell and sisters, Mary Wellons and Billy Ann Allison.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce Yates Mitchell; son, John Wesley "Jack" Mitchell, Jr. of Asheboro; daughter, Denise Davis and husband David of Randleman; grandchildren, Ashley Pyne and husband Cody of PA, Caroline and Hannah Davis of Randleman; great grandchildren, Kayleigh and Jakobi of PA; sister, Betty Webb of Graham; brother, Sidney Mitchell and wife Ava of Greensboro.
The family would like to express a special thank you to Lejon Robertson, John's caregiver of many years, for her loving care and compassion.
Mr. Mitchell will lie in repose Thursday, October 7, 2021 from 5-7:00 pm at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Ave., Asheboro and Friday, October 8, 2021 from 1:00-1:45 pm in the church parlor. At other times, the family will receive friends at his home. Funeral services will be held Friday, October 8, 2021 at 2:00 pm at Central United Methodist Church, 300 South Main Street, Asheboro with Dr. J.F. Howard Sr. and Fred Huffstetler officiating. Burial will be in Mountain View Memorial Park, Denton.
In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial be made to Central United Methodist Church, 300 South Main St., Asheboro, NC 27203
