John David "J.D." Hooker, age 79, of 1249 Southmont Dr., Asheboro died Tuesday, April 13, 2010 at his home.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 17, 2010 at 11:00 AM at the Pugh Funeral Home Chapel Asheboro with Rev. Alvin Brooks officiating. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park with military honors.
Mr. Hooker was a native of Randolph County. After 30 years of service, he retired from the U.S. Navy with the rank of HT2. During his service in the Navy, he was a recipient of the Gold Defense Award. He was the owner/operator of Community Shell Muffler & Service Center from 1972-1986. Jay attended Crestview Wesleyan Church and was preceded in death by his parents, Reggie Oliver and Virgie Franklin Hinshaw Hooker and his sister, Betty Jo Morgan.
He is survived by his wife, Lillie Esther Hooker; son, Donald Keith Cutler of Houston, TX;
daughters, Jadee Hooker Craig of Spring Branch, TX and Crystal H. Mendler of Archdale, NC; grandchildren, Krystin Marie Cutler of Houston, TX, Kevin Michael Cutler of Houston, TX and Benjamin Lloyd Mendler of Archdale, NC; brothers, Bill Clark of Medford, OR, Bobby Hooker and Reggie Hooker both of Asheboro.
The family will receive friends on Friday, April 16, 2010 from 6:00 - 9:00 PM at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro, NC and other times at his home.
