John Thomas Hayes, age 69, of Asheboro died Friday, March 6, 2015 at Randolph Hospital.
Mr. Hayes was born October 27, 1945 the son of Walter Irwin and Elizabeth Davis Hayes.
John was a native of Asheboro and spent most of his professional life in the grocery business. He owned and operated the IGA Grocery store in Asheboro for many years. He had been active in Toastmasters, Civitans and volunteered with the CUOC. He was also, a founding member of the Asheboro Rescue Squad. He enjoyed fishing, and raising finches. But his best moments were spent with the apple of his eye, his grandson Jake, with whom he enjoyed building model planes and cars. He will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his wife: Carolyn McNeill Hayes; son and his wife: Andrew and Tracie Hayes of Asheboro, NC; grandson: Jake Hayes; brother and his wife: Keith and Dixie Hayes of Asheboro, NC; brother and his wife: Hilton and Lib Hayes of Asheboro, NC; two sisters: Peggy Coble of Franklinville, NC, and Bettie Morgan of Asheboro, NC.
The family will receive friends Monday, March 9, 2015 from 11:00 AM-Noon at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro, NC. The funeral will follow at 12:00 PM at in the funeral home chapel with Chaplain Dwight Ayers officiating. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park, Asheboro.
