John H. Underwood

John Harold Underwood of Asheboro, born in Clinton, TN and raised in Randleman, NC, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, July 16, 2009.Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 18, 2009 at 2:00 pm at Oakhurst Baptist Church with Dr. Richard Crider and Rev. C. Gene Booker officiating. Entombment will follow at Randolph Memorial Park with military rites by the Randolph County Honor Guard.Mr. Underwood graduated from Randleman Senior High School in 1965 and was a First Class Petty Officer in the US Navy during the Vietnam Conflict. He was a devoted husband and father. John was a member of Oakhurst Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, Sunday school teacher and was currently the Baptist Men's Director of the Randolph County Baptist Association. He was a scout leader and worked in other youth related organizations. He is survived by his wife Toni F. Underwood; son, Jonathan S. Underwood and wife Julie of Statesville; sister, Dorothy Lafon of Pearisburg, VA and one brother: Gilbert G. Underwood, Jr. and his wife Mary Underwood of Lexington.The family will receive friends Friday, July 17, 2009 from 7:00 - 9:00 pm at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro, NC.
