John Stephen "Steve" Gnida, age 59, of 3752 Bull Run Creek Road, Franklinville, NC, passed from this life to be with His Heavenly Father on Friday, June 18, 2010.
Surviving are wife, Alice Routh Gnida, and daughter, Elisabeth Gnida, of the home; son, Travis Gnida and wife Kate Gnida of Randleman; grandchildren, Julia and Gabe; stepfather, Francis "Mac" McAllister and mother-in-law, Alpha Carter Routh. Steve is preceded in death by his mother, Mary Louise Lamb McAllister and his father, Joseph Gnida.
Steve was retired from the National Guard/Army Reserve and Unilever BestFoods of Asheboro, NC. He worked the Randolph County Election polls in recent years. He was committed to serving his country through his military service and continued to love his country very much. Very special to Steve was a recent trip aboard the USS Monterey naval ship as a special guest of Petty Officer Joshua Holt.
Steve was a loving father, grandfather and husband who lived for his family and will be truly missed.
A memorial service is planned for 3:00 pm on Tuesday, June 22, 2010 with a visitation 45 minutes prior to and after the service at Bethany United Methodist Church, with Rev. Dr. Russell Brownworth and Rev. Alanda Harris officiating.
Steve and his family greatly appreciate all of the kindness and love extended to them during his illness. The family would also like to take the opportunity to sincerely thank all of the Doctors, nurses and staff at Randolph Hospital and Randolph Cancer Center for their excellent care and kindness.
