John William "Johnny" Campbell, age 84, of Asheboro died Friday, October 23, 2015 at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.
Mr. Campbell was born in Raeford, NC on May 26, 1931 to Louis Henry and Odey Burkett Campbell and lived most of his life in Asheboro. Johnny served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was formerly employed with Asheboro Drug and was a member of First Baptist Church. He was recently inducted into the Asheboro High School Sports Hall of Fame as part of the 1950 Asheboro High School football team. In addition to his parents, Johnny was preceded in death by his sisters, Elizabeth Burgess, Annie Lee Brown, and Lila McKinnon and his brother, Louis Henry Campbell, III.
He is survived by 5 nieces and 3 nephews.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, October 25, 2015 from 12:30-1:30 pm at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro. A graveside service will follow on Sunday at 2:00 pm at Oaklawn Cemetery, 737 Albemarle Rd., Asheboro with Rev. Joshua Kurtz officiating and with military honors by the Randolph County Honor Guard.
