John Frederick Barden

John Frederick Barden, age 68, joined his Lord and Savior the morning of Saturday, April 1, 2017. Born in Richmond, Va., Fred grew up in Rocky Mount. Fred graduated from Wake Forest University and came to Troy in 1970. A retired teacher, coach and administrator, he was a member of First Baptist Church, Troy, serving in roles including Sunday School teacher, Deacon, Baptist Men and other roles where he felt led to serve. An Eagle Scout, Fred enjoyed being involved with local Scouting programs at Cub Scout Pack 37 and Boy Scout Troop 81. Fred is survived by Debby, his wife of 45 years; his son, John Claude and wife Hope, and grandson John Lee; his brother Ron, wife Louise and family. He is preceded in death by his parents Frank and Frances Barden. A memorial service in celebration of his life will be Saturday, April 8, noon at First Baptist Church of Troy. Immediately following the service, the family will receive friends.
