William Joseph "Joe" Trogdon, age 80, of Asheboro died Thursday, June 20, 2013 at the Randolph Hospice House. A graveside service will be held on Sunday, June 23, 2013 at 3:00 pm at Oaklawn Cemetery, 737 Albemarle Road, Asheboro with Dr. Donald Haynes officiating. Mr. Trogdon was born in Asheboro on November 19, 1932. He was a graduate of Asheboro High School and a 1954 graduate of North Carolina State University, where he was a member of the Army ROTC. He married Siewers Anne Peoples on August 6, 1955 and she preceded him in death in October 2000. Joe served as a 2nd Lieutenant with the U.S. Army from 1955-1957, serving in Germany in the Army Security Agency and as a 1st Lieutenant from 1957-1963 in the inactive reserves. He served from 1957-2005 as President of S.E. Trogdon & Sons, Inc. General Contractors, a family owned business that started in 1928. Joe served on the Asheboro Planning Board from 1964-1973, the Asheboro City Council from 1973-1983, and was the Mayor of Asheboro from 1983-2001. He was the former Chairman of the Piedmont Triad Council of Government, and a former member of the Board of Directors of the North Carolina League of Municipalities. He was a member of the Asheboro Jaycees, the Asheboro Kiwanis Club, and the East Hog-eye Yacht Club. He was a former member of the Board of Directors of Wachovia Bank & Trust and the Board of Trustees at First United Methodist Church. On June 23, 2002 the new Asheboro Post Office was dedicated in his honor. He is survived by his daughter, Stephanie Siewers Trogdon Bennett and her husband Rodney of Asheboro; sons, William Joseph Trogdon, Jr. and his wife Laura and Taylor Peoples Trogdon, Sr. and his wife Denise all of Asheboro; grandchildren, William Joseph Trogdon, III and his wife Mallory of Charlotte, Katherine Anne Trogdon of Raleigh, Taylor Peoples Trogdon, Jr., Alexis Ellen Trogdon, Rodney Alan Bennett, Jr., and Elizabeth Angier Bennett all of Asheboro; Joe's special friend Dillon Pollard of Asheboro; sisters, Wanda Trogdon Ilderton and her husband Clarence Ilderton, Sr. of High Point and Nina Trogdon Barone of Greensboro; sister-in-law, June Peoples Trageser and her husband Joe and their children, Susan Trageser and Paul Trageser and his wife Marci all of Pittsboro. The family will receive friends on Saturday, June 22, 2013 from 6:00-8:00 pm at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Ave., Asheboro.
