JoAnne Powers Sanders, age 73, of Asheboro died Thursday, June 6, 2013 at the Randolph Hospice House.
A graveside service will be held on Sunday, June 9, 2013 at 2:00 pm at Oaklawn Cemetery, 737 Albemarle Road, Asheboro with Rev. Hunter Duncan officiating.
Mrs. Sanders was born in Randolph County on March 18, 1940 to Huey Monroe and Myrtle West Powers. She was retired from the City of Asheboro as City Planner and helped to design the city flag. She was a member of Oakhurst Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, JoAnne was preceded in death by her husband Glenn Sanders, and sisters Martha Priest and Bernadine Rains. JoAnne enjoyed any artistic endeavors, reading, and spending time with family and friends. She enjoyed the holidays, especially Christmas, and kept a room in her home that was always decorated with Christmas decorations. JoAnne was a beloved mother and "Grannie."
She is survived by her daughter, Kelly Anne Sanders and her husband Rodney Crouther of Austin, TX; sons, Todd Sanders and his wife Teresa Flores Sanders of Roanoke, VA, Eric Sanders and his wife Beth Harris Sanders of Asheboro; grandchildren, Rhainey Abigail Sanders, Bailey Glenn Sanders, Bizuayehu Noah Crouther; twin brother, Joel Monroe Powers and his wife Brenda Powers of Asheboro; sisters, Iris Williams and her husband Roger Williams of Concord, and Louise Smith and her husband Elswick Smith of Greensboro.
