Doris Joan Cockerham Cox, age 80, of Asheboro died Monday, June 4, 2012 at her daughter's home surrounded by her family and loved ones.
Mrs. Cox was born May 12, 1932 in Randolph County to William Aucy and Stella Hughes Cockerham. She was a life-long Christian and served as a Sunday school teacher for over 50 years in the nursery. She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister and a friend to many. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Cox was preceded in death by her husband, J. Leon Cox.
She is survived by her daughter, Patricia C. Walker and her husband Rick of Asheboro; sons, Donald Cox of Asheboro, Jimmy Cox and his wife Linda of Asheboro; sister, Lenora Mae Shaw; brother, Robert Bynum Cockerham; grandchildren, Ashley and Jonathan Walker; grand puppies Barkley and Rusty; great grand puppy Gizmo.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, June 5, 2012 from 6 to 8 pm at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 6, 2012 at 2:00 pm at Rushwood Park Wesleyan Church with Dr. Ron Hamilton and Pastor Terry McGee officiating. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery.
