ASHEBORO - Joan Ann Battels Fountoukis of PO Box 5101, Asheboro, NC died at Randolph Hospital on September 2, 2008. She was 67. Her family brought her great joy especially her grandchildren. She regretted not getting to meet her newest grandson. Everyone who knew her was aware of her great love of reading. She could always be found with a book in her hand. She loved her grand Creator and was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in Randleman. Her hope in God's promise of a paradise future sustained her throughout her life. Memorial service will be held 4:00 pm Saturday, September 6, 2008 at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses at 4053 Brookwood Acres, Randleman NC. Officiating will be Robert Brady and Leroy Akers. She is survived by her daughter and husband Phoebe and Tim Mroczkowski of Asheboro, NC. Her son Obed (Sparky) Fountoukis of Moonachi, NJ, husband Paul Fountoukis of Teaneck, NJ. Brother Ray Battels of Kansas and sister Susan Peoples of Arizona. Her grand-daughters Anna Maria Fountoukis of Bronx, NY Brittany Rose and Meghan Fields Mroczkowski of Asheboro, NC. Grandsons Zachary David, Bryan Timothy, and Dylan Paul Mroczkowski all of Asheboro, NC, and Alexander Charles Fountoukis of Moonachi, NJ. She was preceded in death by her daughter Sophia Joan Koukoumtzis and parents Howard Ray and Rosemary Battels. The family will be at the home of her daughter Phoebe Mroczkowski in Asheboro. Memorials may be made to the Zachary Mroczkowski Fund c/o RBC Bank, 115 S Fayetteville St, Asheboro, NC 27203. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Debra, Lynn, Brenda, Alese and Fran, Also to the staff at Randolph Hospital who took such good care of Joan, Thanks Sharon, Dale, Charlotte, Shannon, Gina and Dr. Sopala.
