Jo Ann "Nana" Ashburn Marsh, age 80, of Greensboro died Friday, November 6, 2020 at her home.
Jo Ann was born December 31, 1939 the daughter of Arthur Lee Ashburn, Jr. and Ruby Carter Ashburn.
She was a native of Stokes County and a graduate of Seagrove High School. She went on to receive a bachelor's degree from the Women's College of the University of North Carolina, Greensboro, Class of 1962.
She was an active member of Muir's Chapel United Methodist Church in Greensboro, and she was also active in the American Businesswomen's Association (ABWA). Jo Ann took her civic responsibilities very seriously and was a longtime volunteer for the NC Board of Elections. She loved to travel and had been able to visit all but two US States.
Jo Ann was a strong independent lady who loved helping others. She is deeply loved by her family and was happiest when she could help them be successful or to be the person they leaned on during difficult times. She was proud of her children, Dawn and Tom, and loved being in their lives. She also loved having a part in the lives of her two amazing granddaughters, Nicole and Emma Jo and enjoyed attending their gymnastics and softball events. She also had a very special bond with her son-in-law and daughter in-law. Jo Ann and her former husband, Tommy are best friends, they're always together and still love each other with all their hearts.
In addition to her parents, Jo Ann was preceded in death by her sister: Martha Jane King.
She is survived by her daughter: Dawn Holzer and her husband, Mike of Mt. Pleasant, SC; son: Thomas Marsh, Jr and his wife, LeAnn of Winston- Salem, NC; two granddaughters: Nicole Oakley of Mt. Pleasant, SC and Emma Jo Marsh of Winston- Salem, NC; brother: Arthur Lee Ashburn, III and his wife Pam of Florida; and her best friend: Thomas Marsh, Sr. of Seagrove, NC; Jo Ann is also survived by many nieces and nephews and a huge community of friends that she loved to share in her life. She is loved and will be missed.
Due to the Covid pandemic, the family had to postpone the Celebration of Life Service.
Thankfully now they can have this great service. Please join them as they have A Celebration of Life service on May 8, 2021 at 2:00 pm at Muirs Chapel United Methodist Church, 314 Muirs Chapel Road, Greensboro, NC, NC 27410.
