Jewell Marie Brown Tedder, 89, of NC Hwy 13, Asheboro, NC, was born December 25, 1918 the only child of Margaret Ethel Brown and Charles Edgar (C.E.) Brown. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Smith Tedder.
She was a lifelong member of Union Grove Christian Church and served in many leadership positions, including pianist, Sunday School teacher, and historian for over 50 years. She was active in the formation of the Grantville Community Center, the Girl Scout troop and 4-H Club. She attended Seagrove School and graduated from Asheboro High School with the class of 1937. In recent years, she enjoyed many class reunions. Jewell worked at many different jobs in Asheboro including Jones Department Store, Blue Gem Manufacturing, and Burlington Socks.
Always devoted to family, she was the mother of three children: daughter Martha King and husband David of Burlington; son Charles (C.L.) Tedder and wife Sylvia of Asheboro; and daughter Brenda King Metcalf and husband Tommy of Forest City, NC. She has 7 grandchildren: Greg, Mark, Jonathan, Brian, Susan, James and Amy and 8 great-grandchildren: Katelyn, Kamryn, Adam, Emma, Luke, Caroline, Honor, and Pheonix.
She leaves a close-knit family with many wonderful memories. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews and by sisters-in-law Carrie Lee Hayes of Kannapolis, Lucy Tedder Rice and husband Floyd of Asheboro, Ruth Tedder of Asheboro, and brother-in-law Randy Tedder and wife Karan of Asheboro.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, February 10, 2008 at 3:00 PM at Union Grove Christian Church, 3985 Old NC Hwy 13, Asheboro with Rev. Garry L. Reeder officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Saturday, February 9, 2008 from 6:00-8:00 PM at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Ave., Asheboro and other times at her home, 3970 Old NC Hwy 13, Asheboro.
