Jewell Hill Saunders

Jewell Hill Saunders, age 98, of Troy died Saturday, February 7, 2015 at Cross Road Retirement Community, Asheboro. Mrs. Saunders was born October 29, 1916 the daughter of John Randolph and Sula Grissom Hill. Jewell was a native of Troy, NC and a beautician. She was active in her community and her churches, Ophir and Eleazer UMC churches. She dedicated her life to her family and was unselfish in all she did. She was a great cook and enjoyed working in her yard. She will be greatly missed. She is preceded in death by her husband: James Robert Saunders and one brother: Newt Hill. She is survived by: son and his wife: Ben and Jane Saunders of Jamestown, NC; son and his wife: Reid and Katharine Saunders of Ophir, NC; son: Mark K. Saunders of Ophir, NC; grandson and his wife: Matthew and Karen Saunders of Southport, NC; granddaughter and her husband: Jenny and Matt Bowers of High Point, NC; grandson and his wife: Reid, Jr. and Christy Saunders of Cary, NC; grandson: Jason C. Saunders of Ophir, NC; granddaughter: Sarah Pedersen of Asheboro, NC; grandson: William Dakota Sizemore of Ft. Polk, LA; and 8 great grandchildren. The family will receive friends Monday, February 9, 2015 from 6 - 8 PM at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro, NC. The funeral will be Tuesday at 11:00 AM at Ophir United Methodist Church 2020 Ophir Road, Troy, NC with Rev. Bill Knapp and Rev. Derald Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
