Jewell Hicks Rich

Jewell Hicks Rich, age 94, of 527 W. Central Ave., Asheboro died Friday, April 16, 2010 at Woodland Hill Care & Rehabilitation in Asheboro. Mrs. Rich was born April 14, 1916 in Montgomery County, NC, the daughter of the late Claude L. and Ida (Maness) Hicks. Mrs. Rich was a member of Giles Chapel United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the United Methodist Women. She was a former Girl Scout Leader and a volunteer with the American Red Cross, the Balfour E.C.A. Club, and a Pink Lady with Randolph Hospital. She was formerly employed with Acme McCrary Corporation and Randolph Hospital and was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Franklin " Joe" Rich. She is survived by one son: Gilmer L. Rich and his wife, Mae of Lexington, NC; Daughters: Kay Eisinger and her husband, Don of Asheboro, NC, Anita Phillips and her husband, Bobby of Surf City, NC,and MaryElla Shirley of Cary, NC; 10 Grandchildren, Scott Rich; Joel Rich, Tony Lyman, Denise Piner; Diane Murphy, Patricia Douglass, Karen MacPherson, John Phillips, Cameron Shirley and Dylan Shirley;19 Great Grandchildren and 2 Great Great Grandchildren, Sisters: Louise Steinhof of Fall River, MA and DeLette Self of Asheboro, NC; and Brother: C. L. Hicks of Perry, GA. The family will receive friends Sunday from 6 to 8 pm at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro, NC and other times at the home of her daughter, 1935 Greenwood Dr., Asheboro, NC. The funeral will be held Monday, April 19, 2010 at 2:00 PM at Giles Chapel United Methodist Church with Rev. Ronald D. Van Lente officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
