Jewell Helen Glasgow Kirkman, age 96, of Asheboro died Thursday, October 20, 2016 at Randolph Hospice House.
Mrs. Kirkman was born October 30, 1919 in Asheboro, NC, daughter of Charles and Lula Williams Glasgow.
Jewell was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother and was retired from Randolph Hospital after 30 years of service. She was a member of Central Falls United Methodist Church, where she served as a pianist for many years. She was a Brownie scout leader and a member of Woodman of the World and was instrumental in establishing the WOW Camp. Jewell enjoyed time with her family, traveling, working crossword puzzles, and had an amazing memory. She is preceded in death by her husband of 71 years, Russell Thomas Kirkman.
She is survived by her daughter, Suzie Hughes and husband Charlie of Sneads Ferry, NC; son, Tom Kirkman and wife Brenda of Charlotte, NC; grandchildren, Angie Kapiko and husband Jay of Hampstead, NC, Russ Hughes and wife Kim of Raleigh, NC; 12 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren and one sister, Mary Troy of Greensboro, NC.
The family will receive friends Saturday, October 22, 2016 from 2:00 – 2:45 pm at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Ave., Asheboro. Funeral services will follow at 3:00 PM in the Pugh Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Velma Allen officiating. Entombment will follow at Randolph Memorial Park.
