Jesse Manuel Varner, Sr., age 77, of Asheboro died Sunday, January 3, 2016 at Forsyth Medical Center, Winston- Salem.
Mr. Varner was born November 16, 1938 the son of Pete and Dora Mae Green Varner.
Jesse was a native of Randolph County and a graduate of Farmer High School, Class of 1958. Most of his career was spent in the construction business and he was an auctioneer with Jesse Varner Auction Company. He had been a former deputy with the Randolph County Sheriff's Department and a volunteer for Hospice of Randolph as well as a Rescue diver with the Ash-Rand Rescue Squad. He enjoyed sports and was an instructor with the Red Cross. In addition to his parents, Jesse is preceded in death by one brother: William A. Varner and one sister: Leona Cagle.
He is survived by: wife: Jacquelyn Jones Varner; son: Dan Varner of Asheboro, NC; son: Jesse Varner, Jr. of Helen, GA; son and his wife: Jeremy and Allison Varner of La Grange, NC; 5 grandchildren; and one sister: Barbara Ann Crotts of Sophia, NC.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, January 6, 2016 from 12:30-1:30 PM at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro. The funeral will follow at 2:00 PM at Pugh Funeral Home Chapel, 437 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro with Pastor Jeremy Varner officiating. Burial will be in Hopewell Friends Meeting Cemetery, Asheboro.
