Jesse Thomas Jack Pugh, Jr., age 81, of 330 W. Presnell St., Asheboro died Tuesday, September 30, 2003 at his beach home in Little River, SC.
Mr. Pugh was born December 16, 1921 in Asheboro, NC, the son of the late Jesse Thomas and the late Mary A. (Fox) Pugh.
An Asheboro native, Jack was past president and owner of Pugh Funeral Homes. He remained actively involved in the family business until his death. Active in community affairs, he served on the City of Asheboro Planning Board, Randolph County Aging Services Planning Committee, Randolph County Senior Adult Association Board, and the NC Senior Citizens Association Board. He served two terms (1975-1978) in the North Carolina General Assembly as a representative for Randolph County, and until his death he was the representative for Randolph County in the NC Senior Tar Heel Legislature.
He was recently awarded an honorary lifetime membership in the North Carolina Funeral Directors Association, an organization of which he had also served as President. A longtime member and past president of the Asheboro Kiwanis Club, he was a recipient of their Legion of Honor award. He was a thirty-second degree Mason and Shriner.
Jack served in the Navy during World War II and was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd.
He is survived by: daughter & son-in-law, Elizabeth P. & Fred I. Jones of High Point, NC; son & daughter-in-law, Tom & Sandra S. Pugh of Ruffin, NC; son & daughter-in-law, Mac & Ann M. Pugh of Asheboro, NC; son & daughter-in-law, Ed & Katherine Pugh of Asheboro, NC; granddaughter, Page Jones of Mount Pleasant, SC; grandson, Bud Jones of Spartanburg, SC; grandsons, Jonathan and Willliam Pugh both of Asheboro, NC; two sisters: Josephine P. Woestendiek of Winston- Salem, NC,and Edna Faye P. Cobb of Raleigh, NC.
The family will receive friends Thursday from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro, NC. The funeral will be Friday at 11:00 AM at the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd, 505 Mountain Road, Asheboro with Dr. Everett Thomas officiating. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery, Asheboro.
