Thelma Jean Manns Byerly, age 78, of Asheboro, NC departed this earth October 8, 2013. Born in Asheboro, NC, on October 25, 1934, the daughter of Arthur Williams Manns and Lydia Velna Hinshaw. She attended Davidson Townsend High School in Davidson County. Jean was preceded in death by her parents and son Samuel Eugene Byerly. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, reading, bible study, teaching and being a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Survived by five sons, Allen Byerly & wife Gale of Kernersville, NC; Ronald Byerly & wife Jannette of High Point, NC; Dean Byerly & wife Sherry Lyn of Chadbourn, NC; Boyd Byerly & wife Wanda of Seagrove, NC; Nathan Byerly & wife Cyndee of Jacksonville, FL; two daughters Melita Wright of Tabor City, NC and Sherry Shaw of Mt. Gilead, NC. Jean is also survived by two brothers, William (Bill) Manns & Margaret of Trinity, NC; Robert (Bob) Manns & wife Mona of Trinity, NC; and two sisters Louise Newsom & husband Ronnie of Denton, NC and Rebecca (Becky) Hoover & husband Johnny of Reidsville, NC. Jean is known as Grandma B to 17 grandchildren, Michael Wright, Tabor City, NC: Charity Byerly Herrmann, Springfield, MO; Kevin Wright, Holly Springs, NC; Rodney Byerly, High Point, NC; Patience Byerly Absher, Kernersville, NC; Johnathan Byerly, Raleigh, NC; Mark Byerly, Blacksburg, VA; Justin Ward, Whiteville, NC; Tiffany Byerly, Greenville, NC; Ethan Byerly, Dallas, TX; Danielle Byerly, Seagrove, NC; Leslie Ward, Chadbourn, NC; Emily Byerly, Jacksonville, FL; Cody Shaw, Mt. Gilead; Julianna Byerly, High Point, NC; Brianna Shaw, Mt. Gilead, NC; Ysabella Byerly, High Point, NC. There are also 6 great-grandchildren, Caleb Absher, Ezra Byerly, Benjamin Byerly, Braelyn Wright, Elodie Herrmann and Seth Absher. Ms Byerly requested no flowers and that memorial gifts be given to the Mission programs of Sunset Ave Church of God, Asheboro, NC or Faith Church of Kernersville, NC. She also suggested Hospice of Forsyth County and Randolph Hospice House, Asheboro, NC. A celebration of her life will take place on Saturday, October 12, 2013 at Sunset Ave Church of God at 2:00 pm. Afterwards the family will receive friends in the Family Life Center. Pugh Funeral Home in Asheboro is serving the Byerly family.
