Jean Hoffner Butler, age 78, of 1634 Arrowwood Rd., Asheboro died Sunday, August 31, 2008 at Clapps Convalescent Nursing Home, Asheboro.
A native of Guilford County, Mrs. Butler was a graduate of Greensboro High School and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She retired from teaching from the Asheboro City Schools, but also had previously taught in the Conway, SC and Marion, SC school systems. A very active member of First United Methodist Church, she was a member of Christian Love Sunday School Class. She also served on the board of the Mt. Shepherd Retreat Center and was member of the Randolph Extension and Community Association. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ike and Thettis Hoffner, and a sister, Tet Starnes.
She is survived by three sons: Ben Butler and his wife Glenda of Elgin, SC, Nick Butler and his wife Laurie of Moncks Corner,SC and Bob Butler and his wife Renee of Mt. Gilead, NC; six grandchildren: Nick and Garrett Butler of Moncks Corner, SC, Justin and Denise Willard of Mt. Gilead, NC, and Hunter and Chad Butler of Elgin, SC, and many special friends, nieces, and nephews.
The memorial service will be Sunday, September 7, 2008 at 2:00 PM at First United Methodist Church, 224 North Fayetteville Street, Asheboro with Rev. Michael Holder, Rev. Susan Mitchell, and Rev. Kent Shrader officiating. The family will receive friends immediately after the memorial service in the parlor at First United Methodist Church.
