Janet Sykes Williams, age 92, of Asheboro passed away on Wednesday, January 31, 2018 at Clapp's Convalescent Nursing Home.
Mrs. Williams was born in Asheboro on May 14, 1925 to Will and Mary Ellen Rich Sykes. She was a graduate of Thomasville City Schools. Janet was retired from Belk's and was formerly employed with Acme-McCrary. She was an Avon representative for 10 years. Janet was a member of Asheboro Church of Christ and had a lifetime membership with Women's Fellowship. She attended Zion Praise and Worship and Asheboro Friends Meeting. In addition to her parents, Janet was preceded in death by her husband, Alton Williams, son, Gregory Williams, brother, Stanton Sykes, and sisters, Virginia McKenzie, Ruby Duncan, Kathleen McLaughlin, and Lois Pasour. Janet was a volunteer at Randolph Hospital for 7 years, Moses Cone Hospital for 4 years, and Wesley Long Hospital for 2 years. She was on the board that started the CUOC in Asheboro and was a volunteer there for 2 years.
She is survived by her son, Jerry Williams and wife Alice of Asheboro; daughter-in-law, Brenda Williams of Asheboro; grandsons, Tige Williams and wife Sarah of Gibsonville and Jason Williams and wife Crisma of Asheboro; and great granddaughter, Clara Grace Williams.
The family will receive friends on Friday, February 2, 2018 from 10:00-11:00 am at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro. Funeral services will follow on Friday at 11:00 am at the Pugh Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Robert Armstrong officiating. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery.
