James Roy Vandiver, age 67, of 3206 Richey Road, Denton went home to be with the Lord Friday, June 5, 2009 at Randolph Hospital, Asheboro.Mr. Vandiver was born May 5, 1942 the son of Jim and Frances McAvoy Vandiver.James was a native of Crawfordsville, GA and was a US Army Veteran of 16 years during the Vietnam War where he served in the 82nd Airborne. He retired from Electra-Finishing Inc. (EFI) of Asheboro and was a member of Farmer Missionary Baptist Church. He served the church for 26 years in various positions including Sunday School Superintendant and Deacon. He is survived by his wife: Peggy Stein Vandiver; son and his wife: Keith and Sharon Vandiver of Asheboro, NC; daughter and her husband: Tina and Philip Carter of Asheboro, NC; grandson: Jeremy Kowalski of Leadville, CO; granddaughter: Raechel Kowalski of Greensboro, NC; granddaughter: Lexi Toler of Denton, NC; mother: Frances McAvoy Vandiver of Thomson, GA; brother and his wife: Vernon and Peggy Vandiver of Washington, GA; sister and her husband: Frances and David Kitchens of Thomson, GA; special friends, Sammy and Melinda McMahan; Mike and Kristi Toler all of Denton, NC.The family will receive friends Sunday, June 7, 2009 from 6-8 PM at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro, NC and other times at the home. The funeral will be Monday, June 8, 2009 at 2:00 PM at Farmer Baptist Church, 4566 Dunbar Bridge Rd., Asheboro with Rev. Jeff Lamb and Rev. Jonathan Burris officiating.
