James Luke Saunders

James Luke Saunders, 81, of Troy died Monday, May 27, 2019 at his home. Mr. Saunders was born June 8, 1937 in Montgomery County, NC, the son of the late Harris Luke Saunders and the late Katherine Dennis Saunders.

"Luke" as he was known locally, served his country in the United States Army. He then worked in many trades before settling into concrete and construction work where he continued for many years. Luke never met a stranger. He was a fun loving, larger than life people person. He was a hard-working man who loved the outdoors and working in his garden.

He is survived by his wife: Evelyn Reynolds Saunders of Troy; one daughter: Priscilla Morris and husband, Bobby of Troy, NC; one son: James "Luke" Saunders II and wife, Karen of Troy, NC; three grandchildren: Wesley Morris of Nashville, TN, Lauren Morris of Durham, NC, and Quinn Morris and wife Jenny of Seven Devils, NC. He was preceded in death by one brother Eugene Saunders.

A Graveside Service will be held on Thursday, May 30, 2019 at 2:00 PM at Ophir United Methodist Church Cemetery, 2024 Ophir Rd., Troy, NC, with the Rev. Vanlene Nelson officiating. The family will receive friends following the Graveside Service from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the home of Luke and Karen Saunders, 1225 Pekin Rd., Troy, NC.
