CHATHAM, VA - James Clifton "Jim" Nobles, age 82, of Cherrystone Road died Monday, February 28, 2011, at the Danville Regional Medical Center.
The funeral service will be Friday, March 4, 2011, at 2:00 PM at the Chatham Baptist Church with Rev. Chuck Warnock officiating. Burial with military honors by the Randolph County Honor Guard will be 1 PM Saturday, March 5, 2011 in New Hope Memorial Gardens in Asheboro, NC. The family will receive friends following the funeral service in the church fellowship hall and other times at the home. Jim will lie in state Thursday, March 3, 2011, until 5:00 PM, at Scott Funeral Home in Chatham.
Jim was a native of Winterville, NC, a US Army Veteran stationed stateside during the Korean Conflict and a 1957 graduate of East Carolina University. Jim spent his working years as an auditor for the US General Accounting Office (GAO) in Virginia Beach, VA, retiring in 1985. After retirement, Jim and his wife of 63 years, Virginia, made Chatham their home. He was active in the local chapter of the National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association (NARFE), serving as President for several years. Following in the footsteps of his mother, Jim was a longtime Bible teacher, active in Bayside Baptist Church (Virginia Beach) and Chatham Baptist Church. Jim enjoyed his family and gardening, each year raising vegetables to share with family and friends.
Jim is survived by his wife: Virginia Jackson "Jenny" Nobles; son and his wife: Jim, Jr. and Beverly Nobles of Clinton, TN; son and his wife: Jeff and Tami Nobles of Asheboro, NC; grandchildren: Carleen and husband Zane McHugh of Knoxville, TN; Caleb Nobles of Clinton, TN; Caroline and Currey Nobles of Asheboro, NC; great-granddaughter: Addison McHugh; brother: Terry Gene Nobles of Cary, NC, and several nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to express their deep appreciation to Rev. Chuck Warnock and the many friends who have helped to make Chatham home.
