James Thomas Lisenby, age 86, of 295 Correll Rd, Troy died Wednesday, March 5, 2008 at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital, Pinehurst.
Mr. Lisenby was born November 14, 1921, the son of the late Virgil Zebulon and the late Candis (Hinson) Lisenby. Mr. Lisenby was born at Concord, NC, but resided most of his life in Montgomery County. He served in the US Army from 1942 to 1945 during World War II and was a prisoner of war in Germany from June 1, 1944 until February 3, 1945. He was a member of Lomax Memorial Baptist Church and a former employee of Ailene Furniture. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ila Ann Lisenby.
He is survived by his wife Carolyn Mauldin Lisenby of the home; seven daughters: Mildred Smith of Mt. Gilead, Edna McCloskey of Biscoe, Nellie Bowers of Candor, Linda Varney of Mt. Holly, Brenda Freeman of Star, Elaine Shelton of Candor, and Darlene Garner of Candor; three sons: Rev. Edward Lisenby of Star, Robert Lisenby of Ether, and Rev. Wayne Lisenby of Troy; 36 grandchildren; 52 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Friday from 7-9 PM at Pugh-Troy Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St., Troy; other times at the home. The funeral will be Saturday at 2:00 pm at Lomax Memorial Baptist Church, Correll Rd., Troy with Rev. Jerry McNeill and Pastor Larry Beaver officiating. Burial with full military honors will be in Lomax Memorial Baptist Church Cemetery.
