James Ray Highfill, age 96, of Randleman died Thursday, December 10, 2015 at Randolph Hospice House, Asheboro.
Mr. Highfill was born October 16, 1919 the son of Charles and Lucy Walker Highfill. Ray served in the US Army during WWII. He was a life-long member of Level Cross United Methodist Church where he was over the cemetery and in the choir. Ray was a carpenter and retired from Weaver Construction. He enjoyed farming and loved his horses.
In addition to his parents Ray is preceded in death by his wife Dorothy Highfill, son, Jimmy Highfill, grandson, Danny Highfill, II and step-mother, Effie Brady Highfill.
He is survived by his sons: Jerry Highfill and his wife Brenda of Randleman, Roger Highfill and his wife Kathy of Randleman, and Danny Highfill and his wife Diane of Livonia, MI.; daughter: Kathy Ann Highfill and partner Tammy Hall of Cape Coral, FL.; 4 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; sister: Mary Ann Neighbors of Greensboro; sister-in-law, Jenny Lou Highfill of Summerfield.
The family will receive friends Saturday, December 12, 2015 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Pugh Funeral Home, 600 South Main Street, Randleman, NC. The funeral service will be held Sunday, December 13, 2015 at 2:00 pm at Level Cross United Methodist Church, 10142 U.S. Hwy. 220 Bus. N., Randleman with Rev. Jason Stanley and Rev. Carol Hunter officiating.
Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military honors by the Randolph County Honor Guard.
