Mr. James V. Harvell, 88, passed away at his home in Randleman N.C., on Thursday, August 15, 2013.
The funeral service, officiated by Pastor Jamie Thorne will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, August 24, 2013 at Pugh Funeral Home Chapel in Randleman N.C. Burial will follow at Huldah Baptist Church, 7187 Old NC Hwy. 13 Asheboro N.C with military honors provided by the Randolph County Honor Guard. The family will receive friends and loved ones at Pugh Funeral home, 600 South Main Street in Randleman from 7-9 PM on Friday, August 23, 2013. His daughter will also be receiving friends and loved ones at her Father's home in Randleman from 7-9 PM on Thursday, August 22, 2013.
James "Jim" was born November 4, 1924 in Thomasville N.C. After moving from Pennsylvania, he became a lifelong resident of Pleasant Garden before moving to Randleman N.C. where he attended Caraway Baptist Church. He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran of the 563rd AAA Battalion serving in the African, Ardennes, Rhineland and Central European Campaigns serving under General Omar Bradley and also served as an MP during the Nuremberg Trials.
James was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Mattie Perry Harvell, his loving brother Perry and 2 sweet sisters, Esther May & Thelma. He was also preceded in death by 3 lovely wives, Maudie Garner Harvell (31 years), Francis Sinclair Harvell (17 years) & Sara Kimbro Harvell (11 years).
James is survived by his only daughter, Sandra "Sandy" Harvell Thacker and her husband, Charles "Eddie" Thacker Jr. of Pleasant Garden; many many nieces and nephews whom lovingly called him "Uncle Virgil"; Mr. Lester Davis, his most beloved cousin and friend; Mr. Ronnie Allred, his dearest and closest friend of Randleman and his beloved neighbors in Randleman whom he lovingly called family.
