James Steward "Jim" Harriman, age 81, of Asheboro died Monday, July 4, 2016 at Randolph Hospice House, Asheboro.
Mr. Harriman was born January 17, 1935 the son of Charles Steward and Cecile James Harriman.
Jim was a native of Cleveland, OH and served in the US Army after the Korean Conflict. He was a graduate of R. J. Reynolds High School, Class of 1952, attended The Citadel and graduated from Wake Forest University in 1956. He worked for years with R. J. Reynolds in the accounting department and retired to Asheboro, NC. He was an active member of First United Methodist Church, Asheboro where many enjoyed his gift for singing as part of the choir. He was a member of the Asheboro Lion's Club and loved all things related to trains. He volunteered with the NC Zoo and Randolph Hospital. Jim will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his wife: Audrey Hair Harriman; son and his wife: Scott and Janis Harriman of Powell, TN; son and his wife: Todd and Vonda Harriman of Lexington, NC; daughter and her husband: Melanie and James Bounds of Bristow, VA; step son and his wife: Bud Whitmeyer and Rebecca Merrill of Asheville, NC; step daughter and her husband: Nancy and Sam Whitmeyer-Weathers of Cary, NC; step son and his wife: Randy and Susan Whitmeyer of Raleigh, NC; brother and his wife: C. Dale and Barbara Harriman of Lewisville, NC; grandchildren: Emily, Andrea, and Brantley Harriman, Joshua and Ryan Bounds; step grandchildren: Maggie LaPlante, Sarah Whitmeyer, Audrey and Thomas Whitmeyer-Weathers, Rachel Whitmeyer, Natalie and Michael Whitmeyer, Dillon Rust; great grandchildren: Wesley and Marshall LaPlante; nieces and nephews: Anita and Danny McNeill and Dale, Jr. and Amy Harriman.
The Memorial Service will be Saturday at 2:00 PM at First United Methodist Church, 224 North Fayetteville Street, Asheboro with Dr. Donald Haynes and Daniel Lumpee officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the church parlor.
